How does ladder system work sc2
If you go inactive for multiple seasons, you can lose your rank and MMR. You will not lose anything, except when the season ends and if your MMR is below the normal lower cap.
I think it is fine. Most multiplayer games do this nowadays to avoid ladder anxiety, and I see little downside to it. If you want to track your improvement MMR is all you need. How does demotion work? General Discussion.
In the picture above, the confidence buffer is represented by the yellow glow region. Note that these are the only two factors required for promotion. Division Tiers When you are placed in a league, you are placed into a division within that league. That division consists of up to players who are intended to be roughly the same skill level as of the time of placement. However, because the ladder population is broken down into quintiles with the exception of Master league which siphons a percentage from Diamond , certain leagues encompass a broader range of skill than others.
This means that divisions are not always equal in each league, which means the points earned in each division cannot always be directly compared with points in other divisions. This also means that at any given time, there are seven developing Bronze divisions, compared to Master league which generates divisions one at a time. Note that without a global reference point such as the Blizzard weekly Top list existed before Grandmaster league , where these division modifiers are removed, it may not be possible to determine your division's tier.
You never cease to amaze me, Excal. This is all very interesting, but a bit over my head. How does MMR affect, say, the top ? Wow, this is very impressive. Thanks very much for this write-up. I am going to send this to all of my friends whose continual nagging regarding how all this works is getting ridiculous.
This is great. Thanks for posting this. It's amazing how much information people can come up with using the resources they're given. This was helpful to me as I'm sure it'll be helpful to many others. On February 22 Valette wrote: This is all very interesting, but a bit over my head. I am leaving my hole known as the Minecraft thread in order to give props for this amazingly well written and detailed article.
Also, anything with graphs is awesome. Amazing, great to see the complex system of matchmaking getting thoroughly demystified. Love the graphs. This should just be stickied at this point They're damn incredible. This thread is the most accessible of all your analysis so far I think. Really great job. Wow this is great. There has to be a way to auto-post a link to this whenever someone makes a thread asking a question about the ladder.
I don't know what empirical findings means TT. Great success. I second the call for a sticky, or a migration to Liquipedia. Awesome write up and really informative. Really helpful on understanding how promotions and other ladder stuff work!
Absolutely amazing. I'd go beyond a sticky Amazing post Not that I don't think you are intelligent for compiling this information and probably gave a good amount of work in yourself, but I do think you should be crediting the people that contributed to this data compilation.

Each play-season the visible points will be reset, while the skill rating, MMR, stays intact. Since Patch 3. There also is a value " sigma " that measures how uncertain the system is of a player's MMR. This is usually high if a player has not played many games recently, or if they are on a winning or losing streak.
Sigma is used to calculate how wide a player's search range should be, and by extension how much their MMR will change as a result of playing rating-distant opponents i. In Patch 3. MMR is now visible for players, each ladder league below Grandmaster is split into three tiers, and the post-game screen now shows specific information about a player's current skill rating, how close they are to the next tier, and the upper and lower limits of their current ladder tier.
The MMR boundaries are based on a prior distribution from the previous season, and during each season roll, the values are recalculated for the upcoming season. In Heart of the Swarm, if a player did not play any matches for an extended period of time, their MMR would decay, or automatically decrease.
The details of the system are unknown, but it appears to be a linear decay, [17] and Blizzard has confirmed that decay begins after 2 weeks of inactivity, and decay stops after 4 weeks of inactivity. If a Seasonal Placement Match was not played last season, then MMR and uncertainty are both reset to their default values and the system effectively "forgets" about that player. A special note about this, though: Random Team MMR is linked with 1v1 MMR, which means that if no 1v1 games were played last season, but Random Team games were played, a player's 1v1 MMR would not be reset at the start of the next season.
MMR decay was removed in April Every arranged pair of 2v2 players is given a single rating. In 2v2 random match-ups, an average rating of the two players will be compared to their opponents rating. This rule presumably applies for 3v3 and 4v4 as well. Starcraft II ladder is divided into several seasons per year, and the final results are generally recorded at the end of a season.

Moving up in leagues fast can prevent promotion, too. As soon as you start losing more, the confidence will rise and you might then skip silver league and go directly into gold league.
