By the mids there were five State primary schools, two denominational schools, the Greensborough secondary college on the site of the former Watsonia technical school which opened in , and a campus of the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE.

There are numerous reserves along the Plenty River Valley and linear reserves branching from it. Nearly all the shopping is found in the sub-regional plaza, with only a few small neighbourhood shopping areas. In when local councils were amalgamated the boundary between Banyule city and Nillumbik Shire was the east-west part of the Greensborough bypass , dividing the Greensborough residential area in two.

Green and growing years: historical snapshots of All Saints Anglican church Greensborough , Greensborough, You are here Home Greensborough Greensborough is a residential suburb 17 km north-east of central Melbourne, situated on the Plenty River.

Land sales The land around Greensborough is hilly, and during Port Phillip's pastoral expansion it was not highly sought after apart from the areas adjoining streams or other well watered areas. Rural Town In the railway line was extended from Heidelberg to Eltham, with a station at Greensborough. Greensborough was described in the Australian handbook : There was a steady growth of population after the railway extension, but the area was predominantly rural until the postwar years because of the undeveloped areas suitable for inter-war housing closer to Melbourne.

I have done door to door non stop to Torquay in 1 hour 15 mins! Its also a jump skip and hop to the airport 20 mins. Just on the cusp of the green belt. Banyule city council has been active in investing in infrastructure - Watermarc is the largest indoor water slide in the southern hemisphere.

The vineyards are not far in Kangaroo Ground of the Yarra Glen. Houses are reasonable in price and being on the correct side of the ring road - fewer traffic jams. Neighbourhood is a mix of mature and young families. Kilparin Lake is do under a yet another facelift I visited greensborough three times last week, went to parks with my dog, went to the plaza and also train station, can't express how beautiful this suburb is! So much trees too!! It was definitely so peaceful and quiet when I went, currently planning on moving and I think I'm going to move to greensborough!

Lots of shop, restaurants, good for big families! I feel like I'm in the countryside when visiting, it's beautiful! Greenborough is a great place with lots of shops and restaurants you can go to. Transportation is great as well so you are always able to get around. I've met and I still meet up with some of the best people ever there and the shopping centre even though it changes a lot is like a second home. It's a brilliant place that I love. Once you engage yourself in the community almost everyone has their extended family within Greensborough.

No one wants to leave. It's a great place to raise a family as everyone is friendly and family oriented. Everything is at hand like shops, mall, Watermark, medical centre, gym, parks, tennis courts, churches, etc. Great transport links - train line to city and buses.

A peaceful place to live with the convenience of living in a big city. We live in Greensborough and love it here. It is a very nice and leafy suburb.

We find Greensborough very convienant- serviced by a train station and buses to various suburbs. The shopping centre has the major shops that we need Coles, Aldi, Target, Kmart and Woolworths is just outside. A choice of different cafes, restaurants, a cinema and WaterMarc.

Not far from the entrance of the Ring Road freeway. Greensborough is a nice place to live, safe and convenient especially to raise a family or even for young couples. We bought here 8 years ago, when affordable buying in our preferred Darebin council area Northcote, Thornbury, Preston Just further north than these suburbs, and we were looking at some pretty soulless, semi-industrial wasteland suburbs that we knew were not where we wanted to raise a family.

East, and Fairfield, Alphington, Heidelberg and Ivanhoe were equally expensive. It was actually on house-hunting in the not-much-better affordability-wise Eltham that we found ourselves attracted to the Henry St area of Greensborough. Admittedly, it's not a pre-made hip suburb some decent cafes and bars wouldn't hurt and it probably lacks an identifiable 'personality' or 'vibe' as a community, but it also lacks the pretension and the dodgy element that other suburbs have.

It's a bit sleepy I guess, but its being woken up and perhaps its day will come. Can you tell me what Nell street is like off Henry Street? Is it a busy street in the day do you know? We live in Vermont Pde just 2 streets away from Nell street and have it is generally a little busy during commuting times as it has the Greensbourough Primary school at the northern end, otherwise it is fairly quiet.

We have moved back to Greensborough from Ivanhoe as it has more to offer us than Ivanhoe did. There is much less Graffiti than Ivanhoe and the shopping is much better. Eating out is also cheaper and the choice of restaurants is great! House prices are much more affordable and you get alot more bang for your buck. Public transport is fantastic and the streets are green and clean. We have just extended our home in Vermont Parade and we plan to stay here for a very long time as we can walk to everything Greensborough has to offer and people are very friendly.

Lots of schools and shops. Public transport everywhere. New aquatic centre. Soon to be renovated town centre. Trees, trees, trees. Some parts are still green but most of it is hoon infested, the traffic is unbelievable and the locals put shopping trollies in the lake. Litter and graffiti everywhere and the public toilets smell bad bad bad. Where is the lake in Greensborough? I think you have your suburbs crossed!!! I don't agree with the comments, but I think the above poster is referring to Kalparrin Lake, Pinehills Drive, Greensborough.

The Kalparrin lake is not my side of town but I have always found it to be a really pleasant spot with the kids. Live just across Kalparrin Lake. Have not seen nor heard this hoons Perhaps they have grown up and moved out of their parents place and Greensborough? After selling dozens of properties in and around the area I have say it has a lot to offer, good schools, kinder gardens, shops, public transport, easy access to freeway and a bush like environment.

A good blend of people and nationalities. If you need further advise please call me any time. Hi Shane we are moving from Brisbane and we are at a loss we are tossing up between greenvale or greensborough could you give us any advice pro's and con's of both suburbs if you can spare some time. Our first priority is the schooling for our children, we are tossing up between St Carlo Borromeo at greenvale and St Thomas Apostle or Apolo Parkway at Greensborough, I am stuck for a good early learning centre also in Greensborough.

Much to our excitement, on-site auctions and open for inspections are back for those who are fully vaccinated.
