Why is petsmart bad
Don't believe a thing PETA says. If you want to know the truth about PETA, check this out. Not all PetSmarts. Like This Unlike dogma 05 Jul Do what you want. Don't go by what you hear but by what you see. If your local petsmart looks fine, then use it. If you see something fishy going on, don't. It's really as simple as that. But I go to PetSmart for their food; since they only sell Brown's there.
The Petsmarts I've been too are fine, but I suppose it varies from place to place. I pretty much just refuse to support anything that has to do with them.
PETA doesn't think people should have pets, so. Are their some Petsmarts that are horrible? But there are good ones too, and I don't really see the need to boycott something if you think they're doing good.
The Petsmart I go to is fine. Search Advanced search…. New posts. Search forums. Log in. Install the app. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. Hi all, I am a new Beardie mom as well as new to this site. I thoroughly enjoy reading all the threads and getting great information! Nothing specific, per say, but everyone seems to dislike them. I am writing all of you to find out what- specifically-- you dislike about Petsmart. I enjoy my co-workers, managers, and of course the animals. I feel like our store goes to great lengths to ensure the health and well-being of all our animals Beardies included and I am looking for suggestions on what we can do better.
Please keep in mind I am a lowly pet-care associate, so I can't make any top-level changes, but I CAN talk to my very receptive manager about that kind of stuff! I look forward to all of your replies! Ofthelime Hatchling Member. Not all the Petco and Petsmart stores are bad but an overwhelming number of them are. Most of them ignore a lot of basic needs of the animals such as UVB, and misinform people. The prices are also outrageous on many products. CooperDragon BD. Several people have seen dragons in dirty, overcrowded tanks with improper lighting as well.
I'm glad to hear that your store goes to great lengths to properly care for the animals. I highly encourage you, your coworkers, and customers to use this forum to learn as much as you can about proper care for bearded dragons.
Now its trash with all sick dead bettas. I always laugh at their info they give me. Like lady this is my 7th time buying mealworms for my gecko. Heres the tea! I saw there was a website on my worm cups. So I typed it up, cool worms! So that's were the worms came from.
Oh a products tab! How cool! My heart broke This is where they get the animals from. All the cheap animals So you bet I tryed with account. The most shadiest thing ive ever seen! It depends on both the staff and the size of the fish section, I think. The stores with fewer tanks tend to be more well taken care of, for obvious reasons. Being told to keep 5 male DG's on a 20 gallon, they had a male veiltail betta in a 10 gallon with 30 gouramis. Click to expand Oh my gosh, that PetSmart sounds horrible.
I've been given ridiculous advice from PetSmart employees too, like one that told me to give my betta 14 pellets a day! I don't think my local Petsmarts are that bad, but yours really tortures their fish! I just got back from my local petsmart. My PetSmart recently got rid of their betta section which I think was their biggest flaw.
All depends on the staff for info. I've had both good and bad staff experiences. However their stock is horrible. Not just the fish section too.
When I got columnaris from their stock that was the last straw for me I QT my fish too. Just was tired of buying meds. This was at a petsmart with good employees. Their tanks are on one full system so if one tank has it they all do. Where some mom n pop shops have each tank on their own system or different racks on different systems.
Their birds have been halted due to bad breeders. I knew this but fell in love with a parakeet that reminded me of my past one had the same markings and the employee told me they fixed their breeding issues. Not even 3mo later and my parakeet was dead due to poor genetics. I was so heartbroken over it happening two times in 1 year that I swore off birds. The only thing they do right is their pricing, return policy and the adoption agencies they work with instead of selling kitties and puppies from mills or breeders.
As w3amz said, some stores are better than others. And some areas tend to have better stores in general because of local laws and what not. Typically Big box pet stores don't generally give the best environment to their animals. They keep the animals in small enclosures, usually with many other animals, they usually don't provide the best cleanings or diets, and the animals are under constant stress due to all the customers and children coming through and sticking their faces in front of the cages very threatening and intimidating for most animals.
The better the quality of animal, the more they can charge. Investigators also witnessed literal piles of newborn mice thrown on top of each other in a box, calling out for their mothers "in a bin that smelled of death and excrement and was labeled 'Freeze,'" PETA said. Hundreds of them were sealed in plastic bags and thrown in a freezer to die so they could be sold as snake food to owners who want a more humane alternative to live feeding. A clip shows the mice struggling to escape the packed bag; they were still alive 15 minutes later.
Investigators witnessed workers grabbing chinchillas by their tails and throwing hamsters between boxes that were several feet apart. Hamsters and gerbils exhibited severe signs of stress. Many of the animals had no water or or only filthy water available, leading to dozens of deaths. When the investigator found hundreds of mice without water and provided some, the animals "drank in a frenzy," PETA said. In another incident, 50 small animals were piled into a cooler filled with feces and gassed.
Petco and PetSmart also returned sick and injured animals to the so-called farm, several of whom died shortly after.
